Fibro Guys

A Social Network for Men with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue or Pain

Hey guys - it's been a while. I hope everyone is feeling okay. I decided to "take a break" from fibro and not give it much thought for a couple months (which seems to be part of a cycle I go through, not sure if it's healthy or not). That is why I've been "away."

Anyway, I have a new symptom! Hooray. In the last few months, my hands and feet have been getting ice cold, even when it's really warm outside. I thought it was just the winter at first, but now spring is in full gear and my hands are like icicles. It's really uncomfortable, I've never experienced "poor circulation" before, at least that's what everyone is calling it.

I've read this can be do to heart problems, so I suppose I should make an appointment with my doctor. Although I'm pretty sure it will just be an exercise in futility. Whenever something goes wrong and I go to the doctor, they run a bunch of tests and they usually all come back normal. Then they write a script for Paxil. All it ends up doing is wasting my time and money, and it makes me feel crazy to boot.

Anyone else experience this?

I go through cycles of icy hands and feet.
They'll be "Normal" for a couple months, and then Icy for couple of months.
It turns up seemingly at random.
Yes, I have the problem too. It can be hot out and my hands and feet are frozen. Was in the dotors office once and he noticed my feet were purple and asked if I had problems with poor circulation. Tests have never shown anything and it comes and goes so I've basically learned to live with it along with everything else.

This I replied to Rick with, and saw your comments so I wanted you to see this too as there may be something here for you to try: Yes, for the past few years and I've been through the Mill as you... Only I've had viagra and other circulation medications and as for myself... The Doc.s have a number of arthritis issues also going on with my body so it is at times lumped into that as being "normal"...  I don't know what to say except at first I used compression gloves at night... This is a good "healthy" way to treat this... The other OTC way is to get yourself a parafon wax basen... Melt the wax for this device you can get at Walmart or the like. Kind of a long semi-messy, but managable way to help. My wrists have been waking me for the past 3 years... I can't wear the gloves any longer as I was doing very well with the Butrans pain patch, much better than fentynal for me... but my doc dropped me because I have medicaid, so I've been nearly 3 months without anything I had back then and no other doctor wants to pick me up or treat me in the limited way I was being treated... Also take Co Q 10 (400mcg) which is a good heart health substance you can get at most stores...

Realize that the only FDA approved med for fibro is Lyrica, so don't be too surprised when you start off with paxil... Lyrica is also a anti-depressant. It's just commercialized and made popular with the sales tag from the FDA... I worked in respiratory and again these are used to calm the nerves thought to be overactive in us. Yes,

Raynaud's.... Just be careful as to what you get labled with... Tell your doc how the paxil is or is not helping... But this is in part why I can 't use my Total Gym... Most of the weight is distributed through the wrists... Like everythingse... you need to use what works and there may be trying to fix one thing and opening up a can of worms... I have a series of names to lable my condition, whereas when I was younger... Not enough of anything with the tests way back when to say I had anything... too young for arthritis... Bull Crap for those who believe that. Not enough of this or that in the blood until they discovered I was HLA-B27 positive, then one divorce later.... A list of names I test positive for... Hurray for technology... Told me something I already knew... Duh...

Come fall or sooner for prices... Get yourself an electrical heated mattress pad,,, It will at least help with your feet and I use my all summer too... Only my hands get above the covers and yes, even in the summer time... They get cold and ache until I wake... My wrists are numb from typing..... why I haven't been here much.... but I hope something I have said may help you...

  Best Wishes,  Karl

Hi Rick,

I had terrible trouble with feeling cold all over and especially my hands and feet until January.  I had my testosterone checked and it was very low, 153.  Normal is 300 to 1000.  I found a study that broke down median testosterone level by age and at 48 years old I should be closer to 500.  After the test I started on Androgel and almost immediately felt warmer.  My hands and feet are still cold at times but nothing like before the Androgel.
