Fibro Guys

A Social Network for Men with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue or Pain

hi all, well I have been living w/fibro since I was 15. they told me then it was just growing pains. well I must be the oldest kid at 47. I myself am a Expressive Art Therapist, holistic minister, certfied holistic health practitioner, certified reflexologist, and certified pastoral counselor. I am a student of life. I wrote a children story "THE LITTLE TREE" a story for our children w/fibro. It is used by various healthcare journals. It is also at life challenges on the net. I live in chicago , great city!!!! I have a loving partner of 14 years. He is always there for me. I have a mix westie and maltese named cotton, my four legged nuturer animal spirit guide.
I think the fibroman mascot is the tinman . I actually wrote an article on this. I have been published in FM aware magazine, the Arthritis today magazine and in two anthologies of expressive art therapy. I travel giving lectures and workshops on how the expressive arts can be used in living as a chronic pain survivior. I work in Chicago at Misericordia Home, a residential facility for ppl living w/developmental disabiliites. I have been here 20 years as an art therapist. I find these people offer me so much support. I am blessed. I have a Ph.d in Holistic ministries and have found the connection between body, mind and soul helps me. I never try to give up , even though it is freaking hard at times. I beleive one has to be their own healthcare advocate, never settle for "no" or "your not covered for that' Be your own voice and find a physician who is there for you . I hope to make new friends here.
peace
Rev. Kurt

Hello and Welcome to Fibro Guys.

It's fairly obvious that the mind-body-spirit equation would help us, if not only because it reminds us to recognize that our problems aren't physical only, they touch other parts of who we are as well.
Everything is interconnected.
Man has the power of mind over his own physical matter, at least to some extent, and so working on our minds and on our spirits, will affect our bodies as well.

That which has helped alleviate my fibro symptoms the most is a combination of my stubbornness, meditation, and massages done by my physical therapist.
thanks Hans, stubborness can be a blessing is so many ways at times.... thanks for welcoming to this great site. I hope to talk with you more . happy 2010

blessings

Hey kurt, the tinman sounds like a fascinating analogy. Can u post part of the article here w/o breaking copyright law? Same for The Little Tree story?
I'm not much of an artist, but am glad to see someone w/ an art background here. Abotu 3 yrs ago, while recovering from major pain, fatigue & depression, my counselor suggested I consider art therapy. So I made what I call my hope painting, acrylic w/ cn anchor on a beach scene & an eagle in the background -the only 2 concrete symbols of hope I could find in the Bible.
Hi randall, I am glad you found art therapy rewarding. Yes i will post them here. it might take some time , but bear with me. I am presenting at The Illinois Art Therapy conference next month and have to finish my presentation. Little tree has been used by various healtcare journals. I'm not sure if is still on net or not. I will see.
thanks
kurt
