What was the worst fibromyalgia "cure" scam that you've come across?

You lie down and this machine taps your neck in one spot - the treatment literally takes 1 second - and it's supposed to magically realign your vertebrae and cure all sorts of problems, like fibromyalgia. In my desperation, I spent about $3000 for about a dozen of these appointments. Of course, it didn't do a thing. And then when I told the doctor I was going to stop, she tried to convince me that I just needed to go more often. The kicker was when she asked me to record a testimonial for her website about how this treatment has changed my life...after that, I walked out and never went back. Just wish I had that 3 grand back!

That is dreadful! The economic cost is staggering, and the gall of that practitioner to ask
you for a testimonial!
Tons of chiropractors still jump into the fibromyalgia game because they work so often with neck pain, even though scans of the neck show that nothing is wrong.
One of the nice things about "Fibroguys" is that you don't see that much "treatment evangelicalism"--
i.e., some yahoo who claims that he was cured by magnesium supplements, and urges everyone
else to do the same with enormous vigor and argument. This happens so frequently on other websites where (not to be sexist) most of the chatter is from women.
Many of the bigger websites also seem prey to "planted comments." These are recommendations so suspicious that they seem written by a sales representative of the company that manufactures some device or nutritional supplement or book or DVD.
"FibroGuys" is thankfully under the radar....

Permalink Reply by Reverend Kurt fondriest on August 19, 2011 at 4:37pm Sorry to hear this rick, I do see a chiropractor for about 30 yrs. Over the course I have met some that were the ones that swore it heals all. Well I have been w/one chiro for nearly 12 years and he is a God send. He is down to earth. He says there is no one way that cures all. He does muscle manipulation, adjustments and has helped me so much. i remember going to one guy who only adjusted the neck and it was just by soft touches. I was like look I know i need adjusted "cracking" not just a touch here and there. I stopped going to him. chiro's are justt like any type of dr.s . there are good ones and bad ones. i have beeen blessed w/a great Md who i have been going to for over 20 years. he about my age and we both have grown over the years w/ our knowledge of fibro

"Special" chocolate.
"Herbal" supplements of a thousand kinds or more.
And then there's the "LifeWave Energy Patches".
Fucking disgusting how fast we are zeroed in to be leeched off of.
The pain makes us eager to try "anything".
Makes us an easy target.
Permalink Reply by Bill Cohen on December 18, 2010 at 3:56pm Hans: those are all awful. I never heard of "LifeWave Energy Patches" or "Fibromyalgia Chocoloates."
Another juicy fraud below just popped up. Looks fantastic, right?

30 patients?
so.. 10 get placebo, 10 get the therapy, and 10 are "control"?
There's no way that that's enough people to get conclusive data!
Permalink Reply by Bill Cohen on December 21, 2010 at 3:30pm If the above was not convincing, try "Tachyon Rays" for fibromyalgia. [Tachyon Rays are
from science fiction.]

Permalink Reply by Bill Cohen on December 22, 2010 at 2:23am Accupuncture is useless, except for those who are temporarily helped with placebo effects.
At one point in time, myofascial pain specialists believed that interfering with trigger points
near the surface of the skin might help with derailing pain signals deeper in the brain.
Nothing came of that theory, either.
The doctor below cures fibromyalgia via telephone.

Permalink Reply by Rick J on July 6, 2011 at 9:08am I went to a Naturopathic Doctor, for the fist time, he ask me questions about my health and also if i had fillings in my teeth, told me too take my shoes and socks off and lay down, he had this metal instrument he touched to the bottom of my feet, it was plugged into a box ... after he was done, he said i had high levels of mercury in my system, told me too take several pills and in 2 weeks i should start feeling better.. 250.00 appointment, when i got hom, i did as he said but never felt any better, have no idea what i was taking, probably fish oil or just a vitamine. I never went back and he did call to try and talk me into coming back..
I did have a proper test done for Mercury levels from a real Doctor and a real Lab, and i had no such high levels.. A big scam that cost me 250.00, and at that time i had just left work, never too return, life was terrible.. i was at my all time low, only to be taken advantage of.

I'm so sorry. That whole notion of chronic mercury poisoning from tooth fillings, or
anti-amalgamy, is another scam. You are only fortunate you didn't see one of the dentists who pull these out for a living. See the link below.
