Comment by Sergio on April 5, 2011 at 12:02am I was on Cymbalta for a few months but experienced all the negative 'sexual' side-effects (loss of erection, loss of sex-drive, painful ejaculation, etc.) so had to stop. I did feel somewhat less anxious and my panic attacks did lessen but they were still present and I do think it's a BIG part of fibro.
I'm now trying Sertraline but, again, starting off with all the 'sexual' side-effects (must just be my curse on SSRIs - supposedly the best anti-depressants for fibro as we don't produce enough Serotonin naturally!)
Not feeling any less anxious or nervous on these new tablets yet - but again with this much excess adrenaline produced by having fibro coursing through our veins it's going to take a huge amount of anti-depressant to calm us down :(
Hoping some of this will help others - if you have any questions let me know :)
Comment by Mikel Rosenthal on January 25, 2011 at 1:28pm I have been a very lucky person. While I did suffer from panic attacks and nervous episodes in college I eventually came out of it with the help of medications. I used to get so nervous I would throw up and have to take baths so hot that all of my skin would be beat red. It was so hot that it would shock my system and some how calm me down. I was sometimes taking more than 11 baths a day, depending on how bad I was doing.
Lexapro worked for a while, Prozac did as well. But now I'm on Cymbalta and doing quite well. I never feel nervous about anything now. Completely free off it. I think those events my have triggered my fibro though. That type of extended stress triggers it I think.
I have a very lucky life and am not depressed at all anymore. But I can understand how many of life's hardships can bring people down.
I hope I can help someone by using me as an example and maybe medication changes to help pull them out of it. By all means, ask away~
