A Social Network for Men with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue or Pain
Fibro Guys was launched to give men affected by fibromyalgia
a place to meet, share stories, and make connections.
While it is estimated that approximately 2-4% of the general
population suffers from fibromyalgia, the disease afflicts women at
a much higher rate than men. Consequently, men suffering from
fibromyalgia are isolated even further, compounding what can
already be a devastating, debilitating disease.
What is
fibromyalgia? Fibromyalgia is a syndrome
in which people experience long-term, body-wide pain and tender
points in joints, muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues.
Fibromyalgia has also been linked to fatigue, sleep problems,
headaches, depression, anxiety, and other symptoms. For more
information on fibromyalgia, please visit here.
Fibro Guys' mission is to enable men with fibromyalgia to
connect with one another on a human level. While there
are many great resources for fibromyalgia on the Internet, most
focus on the disease itself, rather than the people who it affects.
At Fibro Guys, members are encouraged to upload pictures, start
personal blogs, and create personalized profiles. In addition,
members are able to start groups, write on other members' profiles,
start forum discussions, chat, and send each other private
messages.
Everyone is welcome to join Fibro Guys! This includes women,
family and friends of people with fibromyalgia, and anyone looking
to learn more about the disease.
For many, fibromyalgia can be an isolating and dehumanizing
experience. It doesn't have to be!
As Fibro Guys.com was recently launched, feedback is appreciated.
