Thanks Rick!! This is a great article, especially for people who don't understand us sometimes. I put it on my Facebook page so maybe some friends can get a better idea of what I mean when I tell them I am encased in Fibro Fog and should stay…

Rick, I am currently using an anonymous name.   The simple reason is that I had a bad experience where my boss found out about the state of my illness and raised the issue at work and in front of other people.  His concern was…

I love Downton Abbey! Although not many of us know about it in the States. I'm lucky enough to have a British friend that keeps me in the loop. Have you seen all of the second season yet?

Profile Information

About me:
My name's Rick, I'm a pretty average twenty-something currently living in the nation's capitol, Washington, DC...I just happen to suffer from fibromyalgia and company. I currently work for a non-profit downtown. Feel free to message me with questions or feedback about Fibro Guys!
Relationship status?
Single
Do you have fibromyalgia? If so, for how long?
My journey with fibromyalgia began in 2004. What began as a constant headache and a stiff neck gradually evolved into my worst nightmare - joint pain and stiffness, back pain, stomach problems- and dozens of other problems.
What is your current treatment protocol? Supplements?
I am on amitriptyline, which seems to help with sleep, my mood, and some of the pain (but not much). I have tried Cymbalta and Lyrica, which did nothing for me, and I had a bad reaction to Savella.

I take a probiotic supplement which seems to work better than prescription drugs for my IBS. I take magnesium and Vitamin D, but I'm not sure they do a whole lot!
Favorite activities/hobbies?
Hanging out with friends, exploring the city (Washington DC), swimming, travel, going to the beach, cooking, listening to music, playing with my dogs, eating ice cream
Favorite music?
I have pretty eclectic taste...some of my favorite artists are: Adele, Cake, Coldplay, Damien Rice, Dave Matthews Band, Faker, Foo Fighters, Franz Ferdinand, Gyroscope, Hilltop Hoods, Incubus, Ingrid Michaelson, Jack Johnson, Kaiser Chiefs, Keane, the Killers, LCD Soundsystem, the Living End, Notorious B.I.G., Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rufus Wainwright, Saves the Day, the Shins, Smashing Pumpkins, Something Corporate, Sublime, Third Eye Blind, Tom Petty, 2Pac, Weezer, Wolfmother
Favorite TV shows/movies?
TV Shows:Lost, The Sopranos, The Wire, Weeds, The Office, Scrubs, Arrested Development, Seinfeld, Family Guy, Top Chef, 30 Rock, Summer Heights High, Oz, History Channel

Movies: American Beauty, Into The Wild, There Will Be Blood, Léon, Goldfinger, Gladiator, Kill Bill, Little Miss Sunshine, Memento, Pulp Fiction, Dogma, The Rules of Attraction, Silence of the Lambs, No Country For Old Men, Fargo, Traffic, Terminator 2, Trainspotting, V for Vendetta, Bad Santa, Anchorman, Dumb & Dumber, Drop Dead Gorgeous

Hi Rick,

I just wanted to thank you for welcoming me to the site =). I have just recently diagnosed, and in the course of trying to understand what the doctors were telling me I stumbled upon this website. I'm so glad I did because it is nice to know that there are other guys out there who are going through the same thing, and that I'm not some crazy person. I hope you are doing well.

Warm Wishes,

James

Hi Rick.  This is a wonderful website - because of the need for us men with fibro and related fatigue to voice our opinions and to be heard, and also because this website is quite a work of art.  I too have found that the SSRI's don't do that much and have side effects and  the Savella was horrible - only was able to take two of the smaller dose pills in the starter pack and I could hardly urinate!  They obviously never tried it out on guys...  Anyway, I would like to know what probiotic you take for IBS.   I have one and it seems to make it worse.  Thanks and sorry for your fibro at such a young age.  Bill

Thanks Rick. I had received an email from www.fibroandfatigue.com and they listed this site so I thought I would join. Fibroguys looks very interesting but I have yet to explore the site and participate. I look forward to doing so. Thanks again for the welcome.

Finding happiness.

For the last few years, I have operated under the assumption that fibromyalgia and happiness were mutually exclusive. That is, until I found a "cure" for my condition, I would not be able to be happy. Of course, with this kind of logic, I am setup for failure from the…

Passion and Pain

Our office had a Christmas party today. There were cookies I shouldn't have ate and there was champagne that I shouldn't have drank (I'm paying for these choices with a headache and an upset stomach as I type). These forbidden pleasures, as we all know, run rampant around this time of year. But as my boss reminded me today, there is another thing the holiday season prompts us to do: reflect.

As my boss, an accomplished foreign policy strategist, sat with us at the table sipping… Continue

Working with fibro...and hanging on for dear life

I have been working for a small non-profit organization in Washington DC for a little over two years. A few months ago, our office manager was fired. About a month ago, our fall intern was asked to leave before the semester was over. And finally, today, our administrative assistant was told her position would be eliminated in January. The reason? Severe budget cuts at the university that owns the institute.

I have heard through the grapevine that the only reason I have been spared is… Continue

A ramble after a long week...

Last week I turned 25...It's been a difficult week. I am sure that my birthday added extra stress to what has been an extremely stressful and painful existence for the last few years. I know birthdays are supposed to be celebrations, but the last couple years they have been cruel reminders about my condition. I take it "one day at a time," but over 5 years have elapsed since I became sick, and I have just been "spinning my wheels." I'm getting older but I'm not moving forward. A lot of… Continue
