yes, some meds after a time will stop working... I've been on nearly everything under the sun from Oxy to morphine and then some, but from time to time you may need to change things up... I've worked in Respiratory, and worked with some good Docs. I would agree with John D's comments as I've experienced relief with a medically friendly  state and the stress factor has gone down some and I am able to get better sleep than without... I found a high end med that helps, but because I'm on medicaid, I was dropped for an unrelated issue and went cold turkey from everything, only to be picked back up about two weeks ago as no one else would touch my care in a 200 mile radius, and now that I was able to return to this doc, I'm being denied my script because the State has yet to remove the restrictions, however all of the 9 other medicaid people in that office have had scripts filled with no issues as the doc's  office shows everything is back to normal, but not so in the computers in the pharmacies and after getting a weeks worth of meds and a new script for the higher dosage, I'm back to being denied for the same unrelated (to me personally) reason and I'm going without again and teased, only to return to the cold turkey routine... Medicaid sux.

hi, two things:

I have the same concerns about increasing my narcotic dosage so i spoke with my doctor and he recommended rather than increasing dosage of the same painkiller we'll switch to a different one of approximately the same strength. By cycling the pain meds your body loses its tolerance to the one you're not on currently so when you go back to it its like new!

Secondly do you live in a marijuana friendly state? I have found that adding marijuana to my pain regimen has helped a TON, with pain, anxiety, depression and insomnia. For pain it has an anti inflammatory effect, but it also has a very positive mental effect. As i heard someone with a terminal illness describe it to an NBC reporter "yeah, I hurt but its OK now" meaning hes in pain but the marijuana allows him to push it to the back of his head and carry on with the day.

Hope that helps

I'm not on anything currently and it is terribly painful. I had the same issue with strong opiates so I stopped taking them...they  basically stopped working + my memory was shot. Don't know where to go from here & my doctors aren't being very helpful. Just wanted to drop you a line and let ya know that you aren't the only one. Looking forward to hearing what others have to say...
